2006 Volvo S40 T5 Camshaft Alignment Issue
Hello. In my 2006 Volvo s40 T5 2.5L, there are no marks on the intake camshaft sprocket and the exhaust camshaft sprocket. I used the camshaft locking special tool and the crankshaft locking special tool to adjust the timing. After that, I checked for compression and saw there's no compression. Below is a picture showing what the current position of the camshaft alignment is. Can anyone confirm if I have the right timing according to the picture? Thanks in advance for your help and time.

They need to be aligned with the sealing line (level) between the cam cover and head. The locking tool holds them in the proper position to set the timing belt pulleys.
The VVT allows movement of the cam .
Put your locking tool back on and see if cam belt pulleys are aligned to their mark. If they are you are all set and we can look deeper. I am suspecting that the cam pulleys are 3 or more teeth off and you have bent valves as you stated you are not getting any compression. This is a common occurrence.
Please don't panic until verified. Please put cam tool back on and take picture of cam belt pulleys (and marks) with cam belt still on, to show us where you are at. You may just be off a tooth or two.
At this stage only rotate the engine by hand ( with ratchet) . The starter is more than strong enough to bend valves.

Sorry for the long delay. I opened up the car this morning and saw that the tensioner was locked in full position. I took it out and saw it was faulty. I had to order a new one which will take a couple of days to get here. Once I receive it, I'll install it and post up the pictures. Once again, thank you for your time and help.

Ok - exhaust and crank look way off. Unless someone beat the crank pulley on in the wrong place we have a problem.
I am assuming you never took the cam pulleys off.
Did you pass the setting marks on cam by 90 degrees and then turn back 90 degrees? ( To relieve VVT ).
If not - lets do that and take new pics.
If yes- Take off belt and align cam and crank correctly. You may be ok ??? (no promises). Once aligned properly lets do a compression test so we know the outcome.
Best wishes/ fingers crossed for you
John
That crank pulley has something wrong with its placement. I would remove it and make sure its put on correctly. I am worried that we may have a few teeth off at the crank too ( which doesn't make sense if the crank lock was correctly inserted. ) But the photo of the crank does not show the marks lined up

Hi John. You suggested to move the camshaft 90 degrees forward and then 90 degrees backward to release the VVT. The following are the pictures showing that. Hopefully, this might help you better in figuring out what exactly is the problem.
@jimmy57: The crank does not turn counter-clockwise. It stopped. When I put the tensioner to tighten the timing belt, then the crankshaft pulley moves 2-3 teeth. So I held the crankshaft and tighten the timing belt tensioner. Now the pictures are showing what it currently looks like. Thank you both for your help so far and I hope you continue to help me out.
