1994 850T Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement

Post by cBobs94850T »

I have read and watched the Tutorials on this repair. The comments are the sensor should just pull straight out. I cannot pull the sensor out, it is loose and I can move it clock and counter clock wise about an half an inch but it won't come out. A little help Please

Give it a little prying action with a screwdriver between the sensor and the metal of the valve cover, I have done that. Be careful though with the soft aluminum. And if the CPS has a black plastic cap you don't want to pry that off; some are all metal some are half plastic.

Thanks erikvll I did try prying and no luck, is it possible that whatever that passes through the sensor in the way. I have the sensor with the black plastic cap.

There isn't much inside, that's an odd one, shoot:

I did ruin one once by prying, I separated the black plastic from the metal. Maybe try to pry only metal on metal, go around it with little nudges so it is coming straight out.

Great!

There is a cardinal rule in car repair:
- Whenever you need to remove an old part and run into problems, simply look at the new part (that you plan to install), it will give you a clue as to how to remove the old part.
- If possible, always, always test the new part before installation. Let's say you need to install a new water pump, spin it first, check the mating surfaces, check for any obvious defect before installation. In your case of the CPS, it is not possible to test it before installation.

Just my 2 pennies...
