I just bought a 740 non-turbo with 167K.
I test-drove the car and it appeared fine.
Drove the car home and after driving it for 40 miles, it just stalled and died.
I've read some of the posts on the subject and I think I need an Indy mechanic to look at it.
I bought the car cheap and I think it's worth saving, but I don;t want to spend any more than I have to.
Can anyone recommend a good Indy mechanic in the South L.A. / Long Beach, North Orange County area in California?
Thanks.

what year? fuel pump relay is one possibility, hall effect pickup in the distrubutor is another. If you flick the fuel pump relay with your finger and it restarts I would change that. 20 at fpc groton. Hall pickup look carefully at the delicate plastic electrical connector coming out of the distributor if it looks broken or the if car will not restart when hot. Will start again when cold that may be your problem. This is for an 88.
