2003 s60 t cylinder sleeves

Post by mirage »

My s60 has had the cylinder head replaced three times only to last 4 or 5 months before getting water in the oil again. I have since bought another head but before fitting it I checked the block for straightened with a straight edge .although the block seems straight. I am able to slide a 0.08 mm feeder gauge under the straight edge at the middle sleeve. Is this normal? Advice please.

Alldata reports lateral flatness of 0.5mm required, 0.2mm front back. A 0.08mm feeler is well within spec on this. I would wait for some feedback from people with VIDA though.

Those were the head specs listed in VIDA. No block specs found yet but I would think they would be similar.

If my block was clean and had an 8 thousandths gap I would have it machined or just put in a replacement engine. (probably a replacement engine) and check the cooling system to find out why we are bending blocks more than normal. Normal engine that blows a gasket we see less that 2 thousandths on the block and 6 thou on the head. We cut the head and clean the block. We don't measure the block when the walls are cracked. We just move on to the next motor. Always clean or replace the oil cooler. I also put in a new radiator with an engine ( If car has over 100K miles). Nissens has worked out fine so far.

I use the machinist general standards for head and block. 1/2 a thousandths for each cylinder per cylinder bank. Inline 5 cylinder max is 2.5 thousandths.

Some may say that machinist spec is overkill - but my repairs stay fixed. No comebacks - no blown gaskets. I use Victor Reinz sealing products whenever available. I never use a sealing spray. Just two clean flat surfaces with a top quality gasket.
