On April 11, I had my right (passenger) CV axle replaced at NTB (never again), anyway, after the replacement, the transaxle seal started leaking. I took it back to them 3 times and they still could not stop the leak... They did say they went to Volvo and got an original seal the last time.
So I take it to a reputable shop, Friday, they replaced the seal and told me that NTB put it in backwards. Well, today it’s still leaking. Does anyone have an idea of why after the new axle is put in, the seal leaks? Could it be that NTB put in the incorrect axle and the end where the seal is it’s not as big?
I’m at my wits end; no one can figure this out.
How does the seal go in, please tell me...The seal has a metal part on one side and rubber on the other. Do you see the metal part or the rubber par when you are looking at it?

For a good sealing effect to work:
- Good Volvo OEM seal.
- The axle, look carefully at the exact spot where it makes contact with the seal, it has to be perfectly smooth with no nicks, scratches. The slightest scratch will cause a leak.
Perhaps during axle replacement, they got a cheap axle from local autoparts store with imperfect machining job. Sometimes axle re-mfg place regrinds the axle shaft (where it mates with the seal), causing leak.

+1. When you look at an installed seal, you see the metal side, the rubber side with the spring is inside the trans case.

I bought a cheap reman axle from one of the parts stores, O'Reilly I think, and it leaked no matter what seal I put in the transmission. The fix was to replace the axle.
