2000 v70xc Serpentine belt busted, now won't start

Post by pbob42 »

Driving along the freeway couple days back and bam. The pulley on the alternator busted off and shredded the serpentine belt. Put it all back together and now she sounds like the cams are out of time. I peeked inside and the timing belt is coming apart but intact.

I figure I need to re-time the cams, replace timing belt and tensioner to start. Motor spins freely with no valve noise. I realize I can do a compression test once I get everything synced back up. Is there any way I can check if the top needs to come off before I time the cams?

Looked in over the plastic timing belt cover. The timing belt is in place but has separated/frayed vertically several inches along the last groove of the belt.

Can you take a picture of that damage on timing belt?
Allign cams and crankshaft and give us picture of the actual state of allignment.
2000 xc should have variable timing...so we need a picture of cams to determine that.
Did you change something of timing belt components before you start it after serpentine belt failure?
