Try pulling the hood release and holding it for about 20 seconds.. Mine does the same thing. I pull it, go lift the bonnet a little go back and pull the release again and it should lift.

You can adjust the latches on each side that hold the hood down, as there's a little play in the mounting holes. Moving the latch down will compress the rubber stops and put the latch in a little tension when the hood is closed, so it will pop when you pull the handle.
At some point the cables have stretched or the latches won't move and you just have to replace the cable, but this is worth trying and it takes very little time.

I have found that if I pull the release handle with my right hand and push down on the corner of the hood with my left at the same time the hood opens. Saves a little back and forth running.

+1 on latch/bumper adjustments for Stephan: try some spray lube on the cables, sounds like one is sticking.

I do a similar action as rubyvette. I pull up on the corner of the hood next to the windshield while reaching inside and releasing the latch. Works every time.

I'll give this a try too. I've been dealing with it for a while now so I just chualk it up a little extra excercise, trust me I could use it.FLXC90 wrote:+1 on latch/bumper adjustments for Stephan: try some spray lube on the cables, sounds like one is sticking.

I just fold up a business card and place it between the headlight and the hood before releasing the latch. The little upward pressure works every time. Used the key on the '98 in the same way, but the '99 key is a little fatter.

The root of the problem is shrinkage over time of the rubber bumper stopper pieces, one on each side, so there is not sufficient pressure on the hood to pop it up. Lots of solutions have been posted previously including buy new bumpers, install a shim under or over them, adjust the hood down. Good suggestions in this thread too.
