1999 V70 Alarm install

I'd like to install the factory alarm system, and I'd like to know what parts I'd need. Local junkyard seems to have a couple of V70's with alarm systems, so I figured why the hell not. I know I probably sound crazy since most people want to get rid of the damn things, but I think it'd be cool to have. Responses within the next day would be awesome.

Are you sure you don't already have it? It would be rather unusual to not have one from the factory in North America.

Aside from the hardware you will need a bunch of dealer only programming to get it to work if indeed it isn't already there. At a minimum you will need the VGLA module and the horn that fits on the firewall. The VGLA module is on the top of the instrument cluster and it must be from a '99 or '00 car to have a prayer. Even then I don't know that a used module can even be programmed to work since it may need some factory codes that would come on the hardware package for the software download. The remote keyfobs are that way for sure.

I would budget around $750.00 at a minimum to make it happen if you want the remote keyfob to go with it.

Is there an LED in the top center of the dash?
Is there a single horn mounted top center of the firewall?

Yes there is, never blinks tho. Not sure on the second part, will look tomorrow.

Okay, I already have a remote keyfob, and the VGLA module is the little black box top dead center on the instrument cluster? If so, I have that too. It wouldn't surprise me if this thing didn't have it, it was one of those $425 "Mechanic specials" (a.k.a. a giant pain in the a**)

EDIT: I installed the hood latch with the microswitch in it last night/today/whatever, locked the car, the light still didn't blink, forgot to mention this. Also, my tailgate courtesy light never seems to work (before you ask, the bulb is good), and it certainly isn't the microswitch in the latch, I tested it before I bought it from the yard.

VGLA isn't that black box on top of the cluster, that's the antenna/reciever for the remote(s).
That LED in the middle of the dash is no clear indication for having an alarm or not as all cars with A/C have it as well.

Your tailgate light inop is probably broken wires in the left tailgate hinge latch...common problem on these cars

Okay, no horn, do have the wire for it though, I'll get one at the junkyard. And what about the battery powered siren, where would I find that? Location of the level sensor and all associated parts would be awesome too. If in doing this, I'm going all out

Upgraded alarm system requires an upgraded software. This includes backup siren, tilt/shift, rear GBS, ultrasonics.

If this all fails, I had a Viper remote start/security system fitted to my 2000 V70R. You do need a spare coded ignition chipped key for this as it is needed to fool the antenna ring to allow remote starting. Fobs are re-chargeable, and has something like a 4000ft range, with LCD visuals.

All in it was close to $900 CDN installed with additional 4 year warranty from Visions Electronics.

If you are not in a hurry, keep an eye out for deals including install.
