1998 V70 Electric Window binding during travel

Post by davidvinograd »

People,

The passenger front electric window works but moves very slowly at times during its full travel. I suspect it needs lubrication, possibly in the tracks. I want to address this before I overload the motor.

What type of lubrication should I use and how do I apply it? And is it possible to do without removing the door panel?

Thanks,

Dave

Chances are the rollers at the bottom of the window have broken. That or the guide at the rear of the glass inside the door. Both are fairly common problems.

In order to do anything with the regulator the door panel will need to come off and chances are the mounts and clips will break in the process. Robert has a video on door panel removal in the RSPI videos link in the repair database and he also addresses the mounts. I'm not sure if he covers the clips on the mirror cover or not but those always break too. Before I even start to remove a door panel I go ahead and order a full set of clips for both the door and the mirror cover and I have adhesive on hand to glue the mounts back onto the panel.

Good advice from Lee regarding having clips and glue on hand. I also find a panel removal tool to be quite handy. I've saved myself breaking a fair number of plastic clips by using the proper tool for the job. Still -- at 17 years, the plastic is brittle and you're bound to sacrifice a few to the plastic gods, proper tool or not.
