A low-beam headlamp went out on my car (got Bulb Failure message). Replaced it only to find the new light goes out intermittently. I thought it was caused by my over-strenuous efforts to remove/replace the bulb, but my independent Volvo mechanic says these cars have a pattern of shorting out the headlamp wiring. He said Volvo makes a wiring harness that can be spliced in. Anyone have experience with this problem, and with the harness? I'd like to repair myself as the shop wants $100 to do it...
Thanks.

There is a poor contact somewhere. Assuming the electric plug is properly seated to the bulb, I would inspect the wires for cuts. The filament inside the bulb looks fine?

I had an extra piece of metal flashing on my passenger side V70 bulb that meant the bulb wouldn't seat correctly. 'Twas a real b****. 2 hours to replace bulb I think.

I took the bulb and socket out and found that there were burn marks on the contact blades. I thank the previous respondents but again ask, has anyone had experience with a Volvo wiring harness that splices in and presumably solves this issue? Many thanks.
I had to replace the connectors on my wife's 05 S60 a few months ago. They were basically fried and the drivers side low beam (I think) didn't work.
It's as simple as cutting the old one off and soldering, wire nutting, or however you choose the new one on. You can google "2005 Volvo V70 headlight connector" or something of that nature and find the part. I think even most of the chain auto parts stores have them or can get them. They shouldn't be more than 5-6 bucks per side. Good luck.

The headlight bulb connectors on loads of vehicles fails at the pins for bulb inside headlight. You can likely find a repair pigtail at a local auto supply by bulb number.

I need to replace the low beam connector on my 2005 V70. The current one is melted. There are two black wires on the new connector. There are 3 black wires on the old connector. Could someone explain why this should be, and how I should splice the new connector wires? Thanks.

It is always better to add pictures of what you are dealing with. Are you talking about connector to the headlight assembly or the connector to the actual low beam bulb inside the assembly? Who sold you that connector, dealer/salvage yard...?was it based on vin?
Since you only need 2 wires for H11 bulb. But connector to the headlight should have at minimum 3 wires(common ground, and 2 positive wires one for low and one for high beam). Not an expert in 2005 but there are might be some variations between years but I dont remember much difference between regular halogen systems in 01-07. Hope members will correct me if I am wrong here.
