Half of my radio button lights are out in my 99 V70. I've read in the Forum that the only solution is to replace the radio unit. I'm not that mechanically savvy and would not try to remove and solder new lights on the existing unit.
I imagine that it's much less expensive to purchase a new radio/CD unit from Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. instead of replacing with a Volvo unit. Has anyone done this? In particular, I'm wondering whether it will work (with the code issue) and whether it looks good. Thanks!

You can replace the bulbs yourself....cheap parts you can buy at Radio Shack, but you have to take the radio casing off. Someone did a write-up about this over on Swedespeed, but I can't find it right this minute. Also, the dealer has a trade-in program (I believe it's $125 for a core exchange) where you trade your old/broken one for a refurbished working radio unit. Give them a call and ask them if you don't want to hassle with the repair and you would rather stay stock than have an after-market radio.

Crutchfield.com is also an excellent source for aftermarket radios. They give all mounting hardware free, include installation instructions, and provide lifetime support for the product. I recently pulled out my stock unit and it makes a world of difference!

If you want to go aftermarket, it's VERY easy if you buy from Crutchfield. They will *give* you the parts you need with your purchase, instructions for your make/model/year car and have fantastic tech support. To change out the oem radio, it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes to do it - I'm serious.
