2012 XC60R sudden battery failure with no warning lights. I
I had a sudden battery failure at 3 1/2 years, 32,000 miles. It was fixed under warranty but is this a recurring problem with this model? I got rid of my 2008 BMW 535XI because it was a constant recurring problem, battery discharge. The Volvo Service Manager said the XC60 has 27 computer modules on board and they overwelm the charging system and battery. Also, I love this cars power and performance but is there a way to turn off the navigation system? You don't need it every time you get in the car! [email protected].

Sounds like some typical dealer bs. The car was designed to withstand the current drawn by the on board computers.Bcording123 wrote:The Volvo Service Manager said the XC60 has 27 computer modules on board and they overwelm the charging system and battery.
As for the battery, perhaps it had a manufacturing issue

In a hot climate, you can have short battery life of 4-5 years
I think more and more service managers are the dealers relatives in a plum job......they sure don't know the cars too well.
I had the problem with our X3 but isolated it to the Bluetooth module and solved it.

That car, as well as loads of others, has a bunch of control modules to operate all the electrical items. The control modules go off when you turn off the ignition and leave car and have a very minimal current consumption. The car does have high current drain when doors are opened that goes away within minutes. Repeated opening of car every few minutes will drain battery.
The satellite radio system on that car and many others has been causing issues when the subscription runs out and you do not renew. That module will come on at intervals and try to communicate to get renewal signal. If your dead battery coincides with satellite subscription being dropped then see your dealer. 3 1/2 years in a hot climate (have no idea where you are since that is not listed) is not too unusual. If BMW makes the same poor choices for electronics as they do for engine seals and gaskets then it is no surprise that you had troubles.
