2000 S40 Gusher Coolant Leak

Post by TFisher »

My S40 overheated as I returned home last night. This morning as I added the reservoir tank fluid it immediately began to leak out in the area of the Turbo, rear driver side of the engine. Raising the car and looking underneath the fluid does indeed appear to be coming from that area. The upper and lower radiator hoses were replaced not to long ago so they are not suspect. Before I investigate further can anyone instruct me as to what may be leaking in that area and perhaps direct me to a link detailing the configuration of hoses as that area of the engine is quite. Thanks in advance.

I isolated the leaking hose. It appears to be a small J shaped hose with ear crimp clamps. It's located directly underneath the area where the lower radiator hose connects to the upper drivers side area of the engine. Both ends appear to connect to the engine block... this area is quite congested with various hoses and such so it's not an easy visual. Anyone have experience replacing this? I'd appreciate any comments.

Okay I found a picture of the hose I am referring to... the hose is located below the rear camshaft sensor.. it is the small hose with the shiny ear crimp clamp on it. The portion you see in the picture is attached to what may be part of the PCV system (?) as the assembly it is connected to runs around the front of the engine and underneath the intake manifold. The hose then curves down and is attached to engine block with the same type of ear crimp and is leaking from that crimp connection. Once again with car cold fluid added leaks from that point. Any comments are greatly appreciated. Link to picture is attached.

Turns out the hose in question is part of the PCV assembly and available only as part of the entire assembly...around $120.00. Probably could make a replacement by using a similar diameter pressure hose..... will first have to determine how to gain access to the lower connection as the crimp connection will have to be cut off. I could not imagine having a coolant leak in a worse place... but I bet they exist........
