1994 volvo 850 turbo wagon - ptc valve

Post by southofmotown »

Can anyone tell me what this hose is (outlined in yellow)? I have it connected my PTC valve, which I assume is proper placement. Thanks.

From your other post, this pipe should run to the RH end of the inlet manifold and is the smaller pipe of the 2 you show in the other post. (RH is passenger side just behind the rear of the power steering pump and alternator.

So bottom line is it should NOT be connecting to the PTC valve?

ONLY the 2 hoses in the foam sleeve should be connected to the PTC. The big one on top, and the one with the elbow on the connection in your first pic.

Okay I attached both breather hoses to the PTC valve (see pics). On the other side, the larger hose attaches to the oil trap, but I don't know where to put the smaller hose. My intake manifold does not appear to have an connection for it (see pics). Thanks.

Well... there should be a connector for it. I can see that you don't have one... But it would be helpful to see what connections you have on the other side. Have someone been tinkering with you intake manifold, to your knowledge?

Anyway, seems this chap has the same problem you do, if I'm not mistaken: http://volvoforums.com/forum/volvo-850- ... ump-24402/

The vehicle is a '94 model and probably has tubes running along the top of the head under the spark plug cover. Different from most.

Yeah...could be. But isn't it still supposed to have the manifold connector? To me it kind of looks like someone's put a plug in that whole side of the manifold.

No I can't see that anyone has tinkered with the intake manifold - it was owned by a lady and then a younger guy who I don't think did much maintenance. As far as Robert's explanation, I've attached a pic of under the spark plug cover (if this view is helpful). Also, there is a hose that I don't know where it connects. I've outlined it in red so you can follow it. Can you tell me what it is and where it should connect? Thanks.
