1994 volvo 850 turbo wagon - fuel injector codes, misfire

Post by southofmotown »

I serviced the PCV system on my vehicle and now it is idling very rough and stalling. I ran the codes and I am getting injector codes for all injectors AND a cylinder 1 misfire. My first thought before testing WAS the fuel injectors, given the fact that you have to remove the fuel rail in servicing the PCV system. However, I have checked and double checked the injectors, seating and reseating them a dozen times. All have o-rings on the tops and bottoms. I don't see that any are leaking. All injectors are working too (I listened with a screwdriver). The fuel pressure regulator is connected with a hose to the vacuum tree. Any help would be appreciated. I wanted to service my beloved Volvo to keep it running smoothly, and now it is hardly running....very discouraging. Thank you.

First off, I think you should consolidate your threads. Makes it easier for guys like me to follow.

If it ran OK before you installed the new PCV system, then the only logical answer is you messed up along the way.

Did you replace all the injector O rings and seals? Spray brake cleaner (or the like) around each injector and see if it changes the idle.

Was the intake manifold gasket installed properly? Not pinched or folded anywhere? Spray more brake cleaner around there.

Then there are all the hoses and vacuum lines....

Thanks for the input. I sprayed carb cleaner around the manifold intake gasket and each injector: the idle changed in each case. The gasket looks okay from where I stand. Do I need to replace it or just torque it down? Thanks, Todd

The manifold gasket is new? I wouldn't put back an old gasket even looking fine. Also all bolts with same torque.

So it's leaking at each cylinder, both at the injectors and manifold?

Did you use a new manifold gasket? Did you use new injector o-rings and seals? Why do I have to ask twice ??

Here's the update.... I reinstalled the intake manifold gasket. I put some ATV on it and along the top. But I think the most glaring issue that I really butchered reinstalling the fuel injectors. The lower fuel injector seals were wrapped around the fuel injectors and I didn't even see them. They were not seated. So I seated them and started the car and one fuel injector was spraying all over from the top. When I removed the injectors I lost (2) of the precious lower seals, and then later a third one. I was REALLY disappointed, but I don't think it would have solved the problem right away anyways because, like I said, the one injector was leaking out of the top. This, I believe, was caused by the fact that the upper fuel injector spacers were missing....which I just figured out. (I saw a couple loose ones on the ground after I removed the fuel rail, and I didn't even put much thought into where they came from....that was stupid.) But I just want to confirm: DO THESE UPPER FUEL INJECTOR SPACERS FIT IN THE FUEL RAIL? I'm assuming so. So now I have to order these super expensive little seals that I lost and put the project on hold until they arrive. Then HOPEFULLY this will resolve the issue. Thanks for your help.
