Hi!
I'm about to upgrade the speakers of the Dolby prologic/SC-901 sound system, and the last one is the center speaker on top of the dash.
Usually when removing things I am a bit violent, and I fear I will break something. Can I remove the speaker without first having to remove the top of the dash? When I search pictures it looks like the speaker comes out with the bracket and grill all together, is this right?
A procedure for this is greatly appreciated, thank you in advance!

I wouldn't advise being violent with your centre speaker as it doesn't not take kindly to force and will break out of spite.
There is no need to remove the top portion of the dashboard to change this particular speaker. While possible, the dashboard has a mounting point underneath the speaker so it would most likely damage something.
Instead try very carefully to pry the cover off of the centre speaker. It's held in place by four plastic tabs that click into the speaker base. Use an appropriate tool that doesn't damage the plastic of the cover and go slowly.
Once you have the cover off there are only two screws to remove before you can tilt the speaker assembly and remove it. Disconnet the harness before completely removing it.

Be very careful with this as the gray version is now no longer available new. The granite, oak and beige are still available I believe.

You're wasting your time, there is no better aftermarket center speaker. There is no other speaker period, better or not better.
It's small, very shallow with an upside down magnet

Volvo used an unusual design for the centre speaker. It's very shallow to fit in the available space - cover is the upper limit and solid dashboard the lower limit - and has the magnet above the membrane. You will find it hard to install a standard speaker, let alone one that sounds as good unless you are willing to spend some money.
Plus it's not just one speaker, it's two speakers in one. There is a little tweeter installed in the speaker base. So while possible it doesn't make sense for what is the end result.

It's held in by barbed plastic prongs at each corner.
They will easily break if you don't get it just right...
But, as has been stated - If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
There's virtually no room below the existing speaker,
and it's not a regular speaker. To make it shallow, it's
an inverted coil/magnet that's inside the woofer cone,
not below it. A Volvo OEM replacement is the way to go
if yours is fried.
