You can snake it on without lifting engine. A little guard around the crank needs to be removed. Good write ups on here for the taking. I fought the belt on the bottom for a while, until I stretched it tight between both hands and somehow it slipped in between the crank and the metal tab easy. I would replace anything that moves it that area. More money now, saves time and money latter.

my H20 pump started weeping. I contacted local shop & found the repair est. a little to expensive. I'm confident that I can make repair provided the weather holds. Ordered a tm kit & h20 kit should arrive soon. A little nervous about disturbing cam gears. Any tricks in locking them in place would be appreciated. Also, any advice in setting mech. tensioner, too. coolant leak has been going on for a little while, been keeping resv. up, temp gauge has stayed 1\2 way, hopefully no overheating damage. Veh. used for around town errands, not much hyway use or long hauls. Thanks.

Why? Just set timing to 0 before taking the belt off and make sure they are still 0 after putting the new belt on.

I followed the step by step narative and it worked out great. I did get one of those cam locking tool kits for about $100.00 and locked the cam gears from the back. The hydrolic tensioner is easy to reset with a clamp as shown in the narative. Cleaning off the old WP gasket takes time to get it correct. Doing this job seems scary until you do it for the first time. You may want to find a coach to take you through the job for the first time and to answer questions as you proceed through the job.

Lil Red,
I don't know how you missed it, but this posted at the top of this forum and contains all you ever need to know about changing your T-belt and water pump. You will need to jack up the right front and remove the tire

I bought my parts from FCP Euro.
Continental belt
Aisin water pump
INA tension and idler pulleys

Depends on the age of your motor mounts. Without sagging there should be enough clearance. On my last TB job I had to jack the engine up though to get it onto the crank shaft.Lil Red wrote: Do I need to jack engine up to thread new t-belt?

Good point!
If you need to jack the engine, you also need a new motor mount

Mark the gears and the notches in between the gears, with a grease pen. Make sure the new belt has the same notches between the gears and everything should be fine. I have done one one my old '98 and just did it on my '06 and everything worked right. Take your time, read twice, do once.
