2005 XC90 V8 manual transmission swap

Post by kennedykyler »

I have a 2005 XC 90 that I purchased second hand for my wife. My biggest hesitation was the automatic transmission. Now it shudders between all gears unless you are hammering on it or shifting it manually. Everything else I own is standard including a 1986 Chevrolet 1 ton quad cab that I put a 5.9 liter 12 valve cummins and getrag 5 speed. So, has anyone done a manual swap into a V8 xc90 successfully:) I'm very interested. It is my understanding that the auto I have is a TF-80SC and that there may have been an Getrag M66 available. I've searched the web and this forum is the closest I've found on the kind of information I'm looking for. I refuse to put 5K into the car and hope it lasts with another auto trany. Thanks for your time and thoughts.

I was wondering about putting a manual in an XC90 as well. In other countries, the XC90 was and is available with a manual transmission, but not with a V8. I'm not sure what the bolt pattern is for the Aisin Warner transmission in your XC90, but even if you could get a manual transmission bolted up I'm not sure how you would get the ECM programmed to work with it.

Have you looked into what might be happening with your transmission? You can do a fluid flush with the correct fluid and add an external filter and see if that helps at all. You can also replace the valve body for way less than $5k which will likely make a big difference.

From the research I've done everyone seems to flush fluid which I've done partially, then they end up replacing valve body finally and I hate to say it usually end up replacing transmission I wish I could just get a Deisel engine and manual transmission from Australia possible which maybe my only option I don't know thanks for the reply
