1998 V70 P0442 code and gas leaking

Post by SonicAdventure »

Topped off my gas to max full last week, parked the car on a steep incline shortly after filling, and fuel was leaking out behind the rear tire. Seemed to be coming from the filler neck or top of fuel tank. Parked the car on the level, drove it around for a few days and the leak stopped. However, about 2 days after the leaking stopped, the car threw a CEL #P0442 on the ODB. CEL is still on, even though gas has not been leaking for over 10 days.

I pulled the larger inspection panel (fuel pump access) and no visible wetness or strong gas odor to be seen. I got under the car and shot some photos. Looks like my filler neck to tank seal is starting to rust and needs to be replaced, but if you look at the attached photos, you will see what looks like evidence of a small liquid stream from the top of the tank, and also that shiny area down by the filler neck junction. But, its not wet, its just shiny. However, like I said when I opened the access panel its all dry in there. But gas was surely leaking last week no doubt about it.

I am trying to figure out how to track this code, as I see no obvious leaks at this time. Any ideas? I looked for the J hose but I'm not sure my car has one.

PS I cannot for the life of me get this pic to upload the right way. I have saved in on my computer as rotated but it keeps loading it upside down is there something I am doing wrong? Thanks.
