09 c30r auto vibration at idle+while driving; dumb question

Post by Cecil_ »

Hello, I'm new to this forum as I've mostly been on other forums and this is my first real post on this one. I just wanted to see what everyone thought on diffrent forums before I try to tackle this problem. I've looked around and found a lot of great posts on this one about alot of good stuff. I have had a 2009 c30 t5 rdesign automatic for a little over a year now. It's all stock and currently has 94000 miles on the clock.

Sorry for this to be my first post, but I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on a current problem. Currently, my car seems to vibrate more than what I think it used to when I bought the car. The dealer put 4 new tires on it and they have a tad over 12k on them. The vibrations can be felt in the steering wheel slightly if the car is moving on the road at speed and at idle. It's not a violent vibration and you can't see the steering wheel vibrate, I can just feel the transfer of vibration to my hand. Also I do not have a check engine light. I was thinking the problem could be from engine mounts or the transmission torque mounts. I don’t think it is wheels; I just had them balanced and the sway bar and end links look good as well. Also I don't think it could be wheel bearings since the vibrations can be felt while the car is stationary. The only thing I think that could be left would be the passenger side engine mount. I didn't come up with this on my own, some great guys over at sweedespeed pointed me into this direction. Does anyone on this forum have experience with these mounts causing vibrations at idle and while going down the road. From what I have been told, the culporit is the passenger side engine mount, the one that looks like a hockey puck.

Or could this all just be in my imagination and the normal road surface is what is causing the vibrations?

Thanks for any replies.

Time to track down WHEN it vibrates. At speed? Does it track engine or wheels? Tires can wear into cups. At idle? If the passenger engine mount is just resting on metal, it might transmit vibration. It's pretty easy to check.

It's mostly at idle it can be felt in the steering wheel, the wheel is not shaking. Wheel also vibrates while driving, I had one of my vw friends look around the car last night and he swore it was a mount. the passenger side mount has a bubble in the center unlike if it was new and is more like a cone. Although the passenger side mount did not feel like it was vibrating more. I could snake my and down and feel the transmission move at idle, I think my problem might be the transmission torque mount. I would craw under the car but I’m in school and don’t go home for another week. Thank you though for any replies.
I would post a pic of what mine looks like, but I dont think you can post pictures on this forum?

I'm not sure if this can be seen, but this is what my passenger side mount looks like right now in the car. This pic is from anoter volvo t5 car owner, but you can see and feel the bubble in my mount.

Your close to 100k on your odometer, so replacing your motor mounts is getting close to where there on there way out. If able I'd replace all of them at once, without good motor mounts and transmission mounts you'll feel vibration along with possibility of doing damage to your most with all the movement.
