2002 V70 X/C Front Crankshaft seal
Can anyone tell me if I need to remove the timing belt to access the front crankshaft seal on a 2002 V70 X/C Turbo? I have a lot of the engine apart for 140,000 maintenance (PCV, Belts, Power steering, Radiator, thermostat) and would like to replace the Main Crankshaft seal if I don't have to remove the timing belt; Timing belt was replaced by Volvo at 120,000 miles.

My recollection is you have to take off timing belt. Seal is in the oil pump, so belt is there. If you lock the cams you should not have a problem. You can mark everything and take pictures and make sure everything goes back as it came off. Not that big a deal

If not leaking, leave the crank seal alone. It should last some 200K miles in the 5-cylinder engine.
And yes, crank pulley must be removed to replace the front crank seal.
