1984 244 Fuel Pump Relay Location and Color
I have read conflicting reports on exactly where the fuel pump relay (FPR) is located on my 1984 244. Some threads indicate it is behind the glove box, some in the passenger footwell, and some to the right of the passenger footwell behind the plastic fascia. I have also read in some threads that the 82-84 FPR's were not as prone to failure as the earlier/later models. All I know is... my FPR is toast and does not fire up the primary fuel pump when I turn the key to the on position. Neither does it fire up after the car has been started (which is a miracle that it will even start because it is only getting fuel from the in-tank fuel pump). Is this not completely unheard of? I know the main fuel pump works because when I jumper it at the fuse panel (fuse 5 and 7) it fires right up... and very strongly too. Anyhow... if anyone could answer the above questions and also what color/model the fuel pump relay is on my car (white or green) that would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Can anyone confirm that this in fact is the correct fuel pump relay? Not white, not green... black.

Volvo parts department gave me part number 3523608 which cross references with Bosch 0332209150 and Volvo 13 48 657. Looks like this 84 comes with a standard relay for the fuel pump.

New relay installed (the black square Bosch type). Main fuel pump comes on now but only after ignition, not with the key in the on position. I am wondering if the '84 main fuel pump does not get primed with the key in the on position. Can anyone verify this?

Bosch's earlier EFI only activated fuel pump(s) when engine was cranking; it used the signal from the hall sensor to activate fuel pump relay.soundquest wrote:Main fuel pump comes on now but only after ignition, not with the key in the on position.
It's a safety feature...
