99 S70: P/S Fluid - ATF or Pentosin CHF202?

99 S70 N/A, 170k

The manual says to use ATF for the P/S system, but I've heard that using it will cause leaks. I know the 2002 and up years should use Pentosin CHF202 or similar, and not ATF as the manual says. But what about a 99? My fluid needs to be refreshed and want to be sure I flush and refill with the correct fluid.

In reality I think either one will work fine in either car but you don't want to mix them. I follow the manual and use ATF on the pre '99s and the power steering fluid on the later models.

I made the mistake of dumping in some ATF into an old Jeep that used power steering fluid and it turned into a foamy gelatinous goo.

I've used Pentosin and Mobil1 ATF in my my '98 with no issues.
