SRS fault in seat airbag - possible latch issue

Car: 2000 V70R

I suspect my seat belt latch in this, as it has not been working properly as of late. It will click and stay with a hard press, but if it's lightly pressed, the buckle will pop right out.

Just back from the mechanic who read the code and was unsure of what was causing it (I didn't go through the buckle issue with him, pressed for time)

Any idea of getting a used latch from 99/00 and replacing to see if that solves the problem?

Or is there a method to check the sensor in the latch currently?

Without VIDA / DICE the best you can do, beyond a visual inspection of the connectors, is guess. A DICE scan will tell you exactly what it is.

Will the DICE scan indicate that the latch is faulty?

According to the mechanic (who I assume has DICE/VIDA as he is a Volvo specialist), it is the sensor in the seat, but he was vague on this count, saying only that it is the seat at fault, not being specific.

The latch itself should never trigger a SRS error. The chime will ding but it won't trigger an actual SRS fault. If they have VIDA/DICE then they should know what it is. If it is a seat error then it has to be in the SIPS bag or the wiring to the SIPS bag since that is the only thing that is monitored in the seat itself. The seat belt has an igniter that tightens the seatbelt when the air bags are deployed but that really isn't a seat error.

If you can get the code number from them we can tell you exactly what it is.

Trying to get code from the mechanic. But he did say it was in the seat, so next question would be a schematic for the seat. Assuming the seat must be dismantled in this case.

Does the igniter fail and if so is there a way to test this? (But I guess this is not going to solve my issue)

The only tests I know of for testing the igniter is to replace it with a test resistor. Using an ohmmeter can actually trigger it. Anything that involves the SRS must be done with the battery disconnected and the substitution must be made with the battery off. The problem with SRS codes is that they do not clear themselves. If something triggers an SRS error the error persists until it is reset so just substituting a resistor really won't tell you anything without having a scanner available.
