gear position sensor cleaning

Post by tradan333 »

Hi everybody,
I have Volvo v70 ,2000 familial, I have a problems with gear position sensor which gives a faulty signal to the transmission.
my mechanic said this is common problem with this model, and simply the contacts of the sensor( solenoid) should be cleaning.

Does any one where is the sensor located, and how to clean the contacts.
I found a guide for 1995 VOLVO 850, is this the same procedure ?

Any help from any member should be really appreciated.
Thanks in advance
Dan

It is the same switch and the same procedure. Rather than just cleaning them I think most folks sand them back flat since over the years they get grooves worn into the contacts. The PNP is the switch on the top of the transmission where the shifter lever hooks up to the transmission. They also make replacement contact kits that are fairly cheap.

Repairing the switches is actually easier than replacing them due tot he way that the electrical connector is segmented.
