spark plugs: effect of too small a gap?

spark plugs: effect of too small a gap?

I just changed my spark plugs on my 2001 V70XC.
Plugs removed were Bosch Platinum plus. They were in good shape, but what puzzles me is they were gapped very small: .02 !
What would be the effect of such a small gap, if any?
