2 wk old X70 Rear Ended

My wife was driving our new XC70 and was badly rear ended yesterday. The big a$$ truck behind her did not even see that cars were slowing down and there was nothing she could do. Thank god she was ok and not driving her Jetta. It was the first new car I ever bought and only had 500 miles on it as of yesterday.

They are estimating about 10k of damage.

My concern is that the entire car collapsed, as it was designed too, and even the front doors are sticking out. All of the back windows were blown out and even the trunk area was pushed straight up. Unbelievable

If I had pictures I would post them.

We had the car taken to the Volvo dealership that has a collision shop. I was wondering if there is anything I should be aware of as they are repairing the car. Also, I know the car will not be the same but how good can they repair it. I have no idea how they are going to straighten the frame?

I am going to go throw up now.....

If it's that new, I would take the insurance company to task & demand a new car. Don't know where you are, but some juristictions have policies that have different definations of "total loss" based on time. I'd contact YOUR insurance broker & read the fine print & get him to assist you in going after the at fault party - he did make a comission selling you the policy - get him to earn it. Personally, I'd refuse to take that car back.

If your doors are all bent, the unibody is probably very twisted and it's MUCH more than 10K. Try to get it totalled. I will bet your damage is over 20K+

The estimate came back on the damage and it is at $16k. Unfortunately, AAA will not total the car as it needs to be at 70-80% damage to fair value. I am at 40% of fair value. Also, I live in MI that is a no-fault state. This is what you call "Bad Luck"

The good news is that my wife is ok and the car is at the dealership that has an extensive body shop. They seem to do a great job and 70% of the cars they repair are volvos. Also, I am going to get all geniune volvo parts and no after market.

I am still amazed that my wife is ok. The safety of volvo's is unbelievable. She has a little tightness in her back but did a two hour workout today and feels fine. I am positive that she would not be doing a two hour workout two days after this accident if she was in her Jetta. She has all of a sudden become a huge fan of safety.

I can't imagine why....

It's always good to get pictures of the car after accidents. It can help in battles vs. your insurance, or vs. the other driver's insurance company, or vs. the repair shop if the job was done incorrectly.

And they're handy for posting on Volvo forums

, so that others can see.

Agreed. Take some close ups of the doors and the fit. It would also be a good idea if you measure the door gaps and make sure to tell them if they're not exactly the same as one that wasn't damaged you will NOT take the car (wagon).
Then go to a dealer and measure one there, really you should do this

Have a cheap disposable camera in both cars' glove boxes just in case of a situation like this as well as taking pictures before the guy who hits us moves his car after the accident (before the cops get there). One never knows when a camera can come in handy.
