2000 S80 Transmission

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

2000 S80 Transmission

Post by Lizzie »

I have 107,400 miles on the car, I am in sales so I drive 3,000 miles a month. I was hearing a werring noise when accelerating up hill. Took it into the dealer and what do you know I need to replace the transmission for $4,300, plus I need my 105, 000 mile maintenance which is another $1,050. I still owe on the car and the trade in value I will still be at a loss. If I put the money into fixing it and the maintenance service, will I experience anymore large service bills. I would love to hang onto this until 200,000+ miles or am I dreaming?

Please help! I have read so much that it is a GM transmission are they recalling the piece of junk?

if it still shifts properly, would suggest to change your transmission fluid and filter. cheaper as an initial remedy, if the tranny can still be saved.

I have done extensive research, and feel that I was lucky my car made it to 138,000 miles before dying.

I am convinced that these cars are the worst possible investment. I was also very fortunate that we had the extended warranty, because the car ran up over $10,000 in repair bills the first few years.

Now, it sits in front of my house, useless. Funny, but it is nearly showroom clean, inside and out, even at the high miles.

Had to go out and buy a new Honda. I have listed the car as a project car for $3500, but have no takers. We still owe $5500. Will probably have to tow it away for parts, if we are lucky.

My advice to anyone is very simple. Unless you are very wealthy, DO NOT BUY VOLVO. Period. If you have, and the car is still running, sell it or trade it in on another car, even if you must take a bit of a loss. That is better than being stuck like me.

Need more: just Google 'Volvo complaints'. It is really very sad that SO MANY people have been ripped off.

An e-bay seller has a 2000 S-80 tranny up for $950/best offer (not T6). Looks like it could be a much lesser cost alternative - assuming you really do need a replacement - just the additional shipping and labor to install. I've got 243K miles on my 2000 S-80 2.9L and it's still going strong!

Here's the link to the e-bay listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TRANSMIS ... 0101308276
