P0108 after PCV Replacement on 1998 V70 XC

Post by bubbeck »

Howdy folks!

I followed the wonderful tutorials from rspi and others over the weekend to replace the PCV system (hoses and breather box) on my 1998 V70 XC, and seem to have solved the smoking dipstick.

The car seems to run well, but the CEL came on within 10 miles of driving and it threw a P0108 (Manifold Absolute Pressure/BARO) and a P0440. The P0440 ain't new, it's had a P0455 gross evap code for a while, but the P0108 is. I'm hoping to take 'er out for a longish roadtrip this coming weekend, so two questions:

a) I'm assuming this has something to do with the PCV replacement I just did - where would you start looking to fix it? I already checked the pink connector between the hood latch and the washer fluid cap (I believe this is the MAP connection), seems good. To get the pcv out, like everyone else I had to pull the battery, air box, turbo hoses, some vacuum lines, the fuel rail, and of course the intake manifold. I also reconnected some evap lines in an attempt to fix the P0455- the hose from the purge valve to the char can and the the air hose to the char can.

b) if I don't get it fixed, is it ok to drive ~1500 miles?

Thanks folks!

Check to make sure all of your manifold bolts are tight. Don't over tighten and break any of them.

ok, 14 ft lbs right? Also, I realized there a little clamp I forgot to reinstall - might be able get a picture tomorrow, but it another bolt went through it and I think it was holding down some wires. Any idea where that goes? I might've read that one of the manifold bolts goes through it.

Thanks again!

The other thing is that from what I've read, this car doesn't have a manifold absolute pressure sensor either (just the BARO sensor), so I'm confused as to how the manifold not being tightened all the way could throw the code.

Just to give a conclusion here, I cleaned the BARO sensor with some MAF cleaner and tightened the manifold bolts to 20 Nm (they were a little loose) and the code cleared. Not sure what it was in the end, but it's been driving just fine since.

There are some wires that can be caught by the RH end of the manifold if you are not careful and prevent the manifold seating properly. The bracket you have is probably 1 of 2. Most likely is the one for the PCV hose that runs to the back of the engine to the PTC. It should bolt to the RH lowest manifold bolt and support the pipe.

The other possible bracket is one that holds the various cables to a point on the bracket where the accelerator cable is held.
