I know I'm being lazy, but is there any way to know which valve body is in my transmission WITHOUT taking the cover off? I have a 2002 v70 x/c and have really bad shifts. I am thinking of replacing the solenoids, but need to know if I have a "B" valve body or an older valve body.
It seems a lot of wasted effort to run the car up on ramps, remove the airbox, brace the engine from above, open the subframe and wedge it with a spacer, disconnect the dipstick, remove 9 retaining bolts, etc., all just so I can tell what I need to order. This car is a daily driver, so I would have to undo all that while I waited for my parts to come.
I do have VIDA Dice, if that can tell me.
Which Valve Body (without taking apart?)

What build date is your 2002 XC? Ours had an A valve body.
Also if yours is original and our serial numbers on the 'box (under air cleaner on a metal plate) are close then you would assume the same A build valve body.
