TF-80SC transmission drain/fill/flush

Post by Archer »

I have a 2006 V70R (6 speed geartronic TF-80SC) and I would like to do a transmission drain/fill/flush. Also, have a '98 V70 T5 and have done several transmission fluid changes on that. My only concern is not having VIDA to measure the final level at the specific 50 - 60 degree celsius (122 - 140 fahrenheit) range. I have a infra red thermometer and I was planning to just take readings off the pan and upper cooler line metal housing/fitting to get an approximate temp reading/range. Also, there must be an approximate range that the fluid temp is at from so many minutes of driving/idling...? Anyhow, I want to get on with it and stop agonizing about not having VIDA....it can't be that critical....? Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks.

Do not use the fill plug they suggest. That is not the fill plug on Volvo's Search for threads on MVS for the TF-80SC fluid change . I know I've posted it several times.

here is one

Thanks, I understand about the fill plug, drain and leveler plugs...and drain/fill/flush methods. Just interested in anyone's first hand experience with the final leveling at an approximate operating temp without using VIDA/DICE. Anyone utilize an infrared thermometer or cooking thermometer or just guesstimate based on transmission experience?

Yesterday, 6/22/2016, I did a drain/fill on this transmission in my 2007 S80. I had to purchase a new drain and level plugs as impossibly tightened at prior service. Mine drained about 72 hours. Refill was 3 quarts + 6 ounces. Drained was 28 ounces less. Dealer did drain/fill 3 years ago. I had a few slam bang shifts, maybe 5 in three years. Dealer claimed transmission too hot to check fluid level when I requested. So I wanted to check fluid level. Found I couldn't remove plugs with normal appropriate correct tools. It took an 18 in pipe wrench to just remove the drain plug. New plugs installed with the proper specified torque. No issue checking level without VIDA. I question the sensitivity of the level to transmission operation as mine performed properly for three years at a low condition. Easy, slightly messy.

Good stuff....are the plugs typical items that dealers stock? I was also contemplating how difficult it will be to remove the plugs. Why did you not flush the system in addition?
