2001 Volvo V70 T5 door open errors and interior light issues

Post by darksteelsliver »

Hello, I recently purchased a used Volvo V70 T5 station wagon and have started to have some issues with the car thinking the doors are open - even when I've made certain that everything is secure. In particular, the display often reads, "Right rear door open" and "Driver's door open". This causes my interior lights to stay on. How do I fix this?
This mainly happens when the car is locked but also sometimes while driving it, particularly if I go over a large bump.

Also, I'm not sure if this is related but the alarm system apparently needs maintenance (according to the display) and I can't help but agree, seeing as how the alarm goes off at a stiff breeze. I'm guessing the previous owner had issues with this as well since the siren does not go off even though the lights do.

Also, also, (and I really doubt this is related) but the gas gauge only goes up to halfway and doesn't seem to need to hit the red to run completely dry.

I hope this information helps!

I do not think there is a switch actuator. I believe the door closed signal is built into the latch.

Most likely the door lock assembly, there are two switches in the door lock assemblies, unlock/locked, door open/closed and these switches do have problems. Sounds like you may have two bad door lock assemblies too. It's also possible a wire or connector problem. The alarm is probably getting triggered because of the door open/closed switch or lock/unlock switch intermittently becoming open. I have a 2001 V70 and have replaced 3 of 4 door lock assemblies over the years, I pull the parts from a local salvage yard and you can also purchase new. Gas gauge is not likely related to door lock assembly problems.
