98 S70, N/A Broken hard hose near oil pan (P0455 related?)

Post by theWIFES_S70 »

So as I'm going through my week-long subframe bushings ordeal, I come across this broken hose! Could this be leading to my (somewhat less constant in the summer) P0455? I looked around. I can't see where it would go. It's a hard plastic-like line, it's a vent from the gas tank, right?

Yep, that should run all the way to the back of the car. It should run along the RH side chassis rail.

I think it goes to the charcoal canister.

tryingbe gets the medal again. I was trying to think where that went. It should clip onto the back of the charcoal canister.

I'll look for the other end of it. Though, with my subframe bushing job, I spent hours staring at the canister and didn't see anything amiss.

Charcoal canister in the driver side (NA) fender well in 1998 - but moved to back ****sometime*** in 1998-1999 model year.

Its easy to look under passenger side rear wheel for black rectangular box to check for which version. Put your head in front of rear pax wheel and look under car for the evap gear.

If there is a black box with a clock on it, you have p****d off the Mossad and you should put your car in the Classifieds for parts.

If you bought that other one you could compare it, too.

I have a charcoal canister in the front driver's side of the car. I was looking for the other break. I don't see anything. I'm assuming this hose gets routed across the fan shroud right? Does it connect to any valves?

She's not quite ready for parts yet, Steve!!!

I couldn't bring myself to buy that other one... :(

If you've got the early 98 version (with the vapor canister in front of the left tire), that plastic line goes directly to the canister. There are no valves in the system until AFTER the canister.

I haven't played around enough with my later 98 car to see how that system is piped. It hasn't plagued me with nonstop P0455 codes like the earlier 98 car.

On my two 98s the pipe from the tank goes to the canister, which is in the fender ahead of the driver's tire, then a second hard line goes from the canister to the purge valve near the top of the radiator. I would either look for the other end of the line either starting at the canister or somewhere around the front of the subframe as that line runs along it.
