Where to place jackstands

Post by MSchett2 »

I have a 2010 V50 and need to replace the front struts. I need to have the front up on jackstands but am unsure on how to do that. I know the normal jack point is the pinchweld, but if I put my floor jack at the usual point there is no room for a stand. I've heard I can jack the whole front from the subframe, but I want to make sure that works and I know exactly where that point is. If I do that should I put the stands on the pinchweld, or is there a better point to rest it on the stands? In short, how should I do this, pictures would be helpful.

You will see the 2 very large bolts (20mm I believe) right behind the front wheels if you were to draw a line between them. These large bolts are your sub frame bolts. Yes, you can jack there...then use the pinchwelds for the stand and lower the jack and do the other side the same way. Some people also use a block of wood and go from under the oil pan...I would probably avoid that unless it's absolutely necessary. Although I think it's a good idea to have jack stands on the pinchwelds and also the block of wood under the oil pan with the jack as a 3rd point for the just in case...but if you do that, don't jack up the oil pan- just have it tight with the jack. Another option is right at the base of the control arms....at the ball joint (jack there but still use the pinchwelds for the final resting point on the jack stands)...but I would most like go where the sub frame bolts are...they are tough and there won't be any bending the sub frame from doing that.
