first of all thanks to everyone that has answered my posts so far i do appreciate it !
im sure you are all sick of my questions now , (cant promise this will be the last)
on "the list" of things to fix on the 850 is when you use the central locking it puts a drain on the battery so much so that you come back and the cars flat
leave it unlocked and its absolutely fine but its not ideal!
plan was to manually lock the doors and just take the fuse out for the central locking although i would like to get it sorted somehow.
any thoughts very welcome as electrics is not my strong point !
thanks Mark.

Ill guess one of the locks is sticking and the motor is straining all the time when you try to lock.
If you lock and then unlock does it still drain?
You probably have to pull the connectors one by one to isolate the bad one.
Ugh.
PS - as long as your handbrake works you are welcome here. Non-working hand brakes need not apply it.

Following on from misha's question, how long does it take to drain a fully charged battery to point of not starting (say <9.5V).
I have an aftermarket Viper system on my 2000 R and it runs the battery down over a week or so as I don't use the car much, so I have a trickle charger to top the battery up. You can check if it is the alarm system or something else, by doing a current draw test on the battery and pulling each fuse until you find which circuit is draining the system. Then disconnect each item on that circuit until the draw disappears.
Neil.

sorry only just seen this , its all standard volvo equipment no add ons
if you park it in the morning and lock it by the time you come out of work in late afternoon it will be flat.
all the central locking works off both the key in the doors and by the remote .
question does everybody elses lock the doors then as an after goes clunk ?
i thought it was one lock but putting my ear to each door it does it on every door , its stays locked doesnt open back up.

Sounds like you have a dead battery.
I don't know about England, but I can easily have the battery tested for free at any auto parts store in US.
