My car is a 850 T5 Wagon Automatic 1996 OBDII....
Hello folks....i took out my IAC valve + Throttle body to clean (Darn thing was filthy from all the blowby and hence was the cause of my erratic idle! heh i gave it a good blast with diesel first and then carb cleaner! DIY forever!)
After i had put everything back.....i disconnected the IAC connector while the engine was running(Just to see how the engine would respond without the AIC Valve)..
This is my problem....i reconnected the IAC connector while the engine was running and subsequently my check engine light came on.
My guess is the ECU detected an error when the connector was removed and reconnected while the engine was running and hence the check engine light.
My question is, have i wrecked anything or is it a simple matter of resetting the check engine light? IF so, how do i go about it? I don't suppose simply disconnecting the battery for a long time will help?

You can reset it using an electronic tool or just leave it and after enough driving the OBDII will figure out that everything's ok and unset the light.
Tools are available retail here in the States for $150 and up. Or a dealer would have this tool of course and may or may not charge you to kill the light.

Mine took 3 days or so, of about 20 miles a day, to reset.

Same problem. After 5 trips the MAF sensor was replaced and I have not had an issue since. Good luck.
I am looking at a CEL on my C70. I am sure it is due to needing an oil change and not to mention I just recently drove it across country and passed the 120K mark. I tried to reset it via the Odometer depressing method holding it down and turning the car to position II, but the light is still on. Will it go off later or do I need to have a look at the fuse box?

The check engine light and the service reminder light are two entirely different things.rrvarnum wrote:I am looking at a CEL on my C70. If the check engine light is on, pull codes via the OBDII port and then we can help you further. Please start a new topic with this information.
