No overdrive after engine swap?

Post by olddaddy »

So we swapped in a low miles engine into our 2000 V40 after an overheat killed the original. The car runs great, better than before, but does not shift into overdrive. At 70 mph it's turning 3K rpm, well above normal. Any idea what may have happened? Did we bump something, forget to attach something, upset the shifting gods?

Dumb question, but is it the same gearbox?
No CEL?
No Upshift Light?

Original automatic gearbox, no cel or up shift light. It runs and shifts fine, but does not go into overdrive.

Is it the right fluid and up to "full" when hot? I believe the 4sp (AW 50-42) uses Dexron III/ Mercon.
Maybe row the PNP switch back and forth 20 times?
Unplug / replug the connectors?

I realize this is basic, but I've got nothing else.
Good luck.

I appreciate the reply, and though basic, on the mark. Fluid is correct and clean and full, PNP switch is new and properly adjusted......connectors may need unplug/replug activity over the weekend.
