So ive been trying to widdle down a somewhat ongoing issue i've had with my DIM unit going out on my 2001 Volvo V70 (2.4T)...I have been using a workaround for about 6 months that I found on this site, where you plug something in the cigarette lighter and it re-routes the ground.
Anyways, the issue popped back up about a week ago and it doesnt seem to be fixing itself with the cigarette lighter fix now. I've tried plugging something else into it and still no bueno.
Last night while I was diagnosing the fuses in the engine compartment thinking it might be related to a "network fuse" that had been replaced previously by a mechanic months back, I found an oily mess at where the wiring harness plugs into the fuse box. Please see attached pic for reference. I've tried cleaning it off several times now with alcohol and q tips but it seems to have its own source, almost like its coming from the underside of the fuse box.
I can't imagine this being the work of just some bad mechanic with a spill problem, but I cant really see where it's coming from either. I'm considering trying to uninstall the fuse box to look under it. Any advice is appreciated as I am lost on this one... Thanks
Oil in my engine fuse box connector piece...How? Any advice?

Ugh - have you tried contact cleaner to get the grease off?
I think I would lift the fuse box and see underneath.
