Hi All,
Short time luker, first time poster.
I'm doing a PCV replacement on my P2 V70 at 62k miles, it started consuming oil at an alarming rate.
I am having trouble loosening that last passenger side lower bolt.
Any tips other than a universal joint and wobble extension?
Thanks,
Steve

Not sure but maybe removing the thermostat assembly may help. Sadly, 1/4" wobble extension is the way to go

Wobble adapter worked for me.
If you do remove the thermostat housing, which I did as well, just make sure to remove the entire housing so you can get a replacement gasket for it. If you only remove the top half of the housing, there is no replacement gasket for that mounting face because the entire two-part housing is sold as a single unit... even the stat is not replaceable. The only work around to avoid replacing the entire unit is if you use some RTV on the existing gasket to put the two parts back together.
Alternatively, you can also convert back to the older version of the stat housing from an '02 which DOES have a replaceable middle gasket and stat, but you may also have to replace the upper radiator hose due to the different housing nozzle orientation between those two versions of the stat housing. Also, the cost of a new '02 housing is almost the same as that for your '05, so it would only be advisable to take this approach for one of two (or both reasons) -- 1) you're going to keep the vehicle long enough to eventually need (or want) to replace the thermostat, or 2) you can get quick access to a used '02 housing in good condition for a good price.

1/4 wobble worked for me, except I lost the bolt. You just need to loosen it a couple of turns
5rivers told me where to find it in the engine - and she was right on!!

Yep... those little extendable magnetic pickup tools are a must for EVERY under the hood job I work on! I just stick the magnet to the front lip of the hood and leave it hanging there so that it's within arm's reach from wherever I drop something.

Thanks everyone for chiming in.
I got it off but definitely smoothed out the bolt head a little. I did not take off the thermostat housing.
While I'm this deep is there anything else I should replace?
The PCV kit came with all the replacement gaskets and such and injector o-rings.... But I'm wondering anything else should be done while I have it open and have the time.
As a note the intake is pretty black.... any suggestions for cleaning? I've heard brake cleaner and rags, oven cleaner, acetone, and shop steam clean.

Skkele,
I wondered if you would consider exploring something - that would be to replace that end bolt with a good quality (grade 8 or better) torx head bolt. That way it wouldn't require such a large tool to remove/replace. You're going to have just as much trouble tightening it back down as you did loosening it especially if the head is slightly rounded. We're you able to completely remove the bolt or does it hit up against the thermo housing before it's completely unscrewed?

Being a 2005, the thermostat is more surely stuck open or will do so in the new 2 years. At this point is easy to replace.
The lower block port goes to an oil passage inside the oil pan, this is the best moment to test see this passage is clear, by blowing through a hose plugged in the lower port. You should hear the oil bubbling inside the oil pan.

If that port is not clear, you will more than likely have to drop the oil pan to clean out the vertical portion of the port.
Pull and clean out the throttle body. I used throttle body cleaner and brake cleaner along with some 0000 steel wool and a little touch-up with some 400 grit wet-dry sand paper.

chrism - I didn't get a chance to try this. I didn't remove the thermo housing so I wasn't able to remove the bolt. I did tighten it but not to 22Nm.
Thanks you to everyone else to contributed.
I still have crank case vacuum but I hope the PCV system is "working" now and the car will stop using oil.
