Volvo 240 GLE B230E engine airfilter question, kinda urgent

Hey guys,
I have a quicky
I have just bought a replacement filter (the K&N brand) for my 1985 GLE 240 with a B230E engine...
The question is, can these damage my engine?
I know their filtration isn't quite as high as the paper elements, however, this cotton k&n filter element is still high, so... apart from dust, will the air or pressure from the replacement k&n filter damage my engine?
please please please tell me!

K&N filters claim to work better as the filter medium traps more dirt. If you add one you might need to finetune the air/fuel mixture (beyond what the sensor automatically compensates for) to make sure you're not running lean as a result of breathing better.
