Volvo 850 Turbo CV Boot Part #'s

Post by polskamafia mjl »

Good evening everyone,

I'm trying to replace the CV boots on the passenger side axle on my T5R but I'm having trouble finding the right parts.

The outer joint I found through eeuroparts. It's a GKN boot part number 300439 and looks like it should fit.

The inner boot I that got from RMEuropean is too small (I'm guessing its for an NA axle) and its part number is 893498201B.

Does anyone know the correct part number for the inner CV boot for an 850 turbo?

Thanks!

I did a turbo axle recently.

GKN 300439 outer
GKN 300597 inner (this is the "Audi boot" that is posted about elsewhere, however I think this is the same one recommended for NA axles?)

Both from AutoHausAZ

I have a turbo axle and an NA axle both sitting in the garage, I could compare the inner CV joints side by side this weekend, if that would help let me know.

That inner boot part number doesn't return any results on google nor AutohausAZ. :-/ I fear that GKN may no longer make that boot.

EDIT: I believe I had read that the outer CV boot could be used on the inner joint as well. Is that true?

I just went through the exact same issue recently.
I posted my replies in the thread below.
The bottom line is:
a. Volvo OEM Inner boot for $32 vs
b. Audi: I have tested Audi Boot on a Volvo NA Inner side and it fits perfectly. However I have NOT tested the Audi boot on a Turbo Axle, so check with erikv11.

Thanks, CN90!

I may just spring for the Volvo boot and get it over with.

Do you happen to know if the Volvo boot comes with grease or if the grease is at least available separately at the dealer?

Edit: I found this on Pelican Parts: http://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/8 ... B-M60#tab1

I believe it is the Audi 100S boot. PN 893-498-201-B-M60. If I had found that earlier I would have given it a try but they won't ship until Monday and I would like to get my car on the road sooner than that so I think I'll try the dealer tomorrow morning.

That's the one. Ignore the sharpie, that is just a reminder to me.
inner CV boot P80
inner CV boot P80
I will check those other CV's and post up the comparison, just to close the thread questions.

I forgot to mention something:

1. For NA Axle, it is much easier to undo the inner boot, even if you replace ONLY the outer boot.

2. For Turbo Axle, the inner tripod is almost impossible to remove, so I had to undo the Outer CV Joint.
If you are in a pinch (I was in a pinch), I re-used the inner boot, which still looked good and plus, the Inner boot does not go through flexing/bending as the outer boot, so the inner boot easily lasts 200K.

Here is a pic of the turbo and NA outer CV side by side. You can see how the NA is smaller diameter, smaller overall, with a slightly different shaped boot including the lip at the outer clamp. These are both factory Volvo axles.
