240 electric windows

Post by norski »

1993 240 wagon=sudden failure of all four electric windows, regardless of the overide or safety switch status.

I pulled the switch assembly from the door. There is no voltage going to the center override switch, I think the yellow wire should have voltage? All fuses appear to be good.

Thanks,
Arne

"appear to be good" but they are cracked where wire is formed over ends of the ceramic body. Replace the fuse. Those ceramic fuses are notorious for not going open in the visible necked down place where they should blow for shorts. They expand and contract through a few thousand cycles and the conductor cracks. Fuses 10 and 12 are for windows. One is the motor power supply and the other is the power for the relay magnet coil. Either fuese open will kill off all windows.

Cheapy test light works fine for probing the copper fuse panel contacts on either end of the fuse for fuse checking.

OK, that would be great. But to clarify I checked the fuses with my probe light and they all pass voltage to the light. That is what I meant by "appear to be good". sorry.

Think fuses could still be the problem?
