Hello, I was cruising at 30 mph when the the engine suddenly started sounding like a diesel. I pulled over and listened for a moment when it occurred to me what had probable happened. I shut down the car and pulled the timing belt cover and found the tensioner pulley had failed. The cams are now three teeth past the marks when the motor is at tdc. Is there a chance that nothing is damaged? Motor turns freely. the car is new to me and I have almost no history on it.
Thanks

If the engine ran without dying on its own then it's almost certain no bent valves. Don't rotate the engine again except for inching to the crank timing marks then carefully rotate the cams BY HAND to their mark. Feel vey carefully for resistance that might occur if you turn the cam in the wrong direction and collide with a piston. From your description, it is only a minor jump and very savable.
If you've never done a white block timing belt before... the correct timing position for the crank is 90° after TDC for #1 cylinder, NOT fully up.
