Yes all 6 screws are out. After many F bombs on the garage floor, it came out. Now to find parts to rebuild.

Is this what you're looking for?

https://nwct.craigslist.org/pts/6040890783.html

Or this?

I often look for Volvo parts and have never seen this stuff before... Is this the part that always goes bad on the XCs?

No he is looking at the prop-shaft that connects to this part which is the angle gear. It is basically a differential and turns the power from the transmission 90 degrees and to the prop-shaft to the rear wheels.

These are getting harder to find, and buying used is a crap shoot. You have to make sure it turns and that the collar (the shiny cylinder) is not stripped internally of its splines and also the splines on the shaft it connects to. If they splines on the shaft are toast then so is the unit. The collar is getting harder to find and is the weak link in these units. Prices are fair if they are good. It is not something I would buy unless I could touch it or get from a recognised good used part supplier.

Thanks, Neil. I had no idea. I had never seen pieces like this for sale on Craigslist around here before.

I don't think I'd get an AWD. But seeing one up close, I can see why folks want to hold onto them. It's a shame about the parts though...
