NEW, ac question(not freon problem) V70

Post by crhilton »

I am having a similar problem as some with my 2001 V70. AC will work for random amount of time but will only cool from 2 center vents. Driver side and passenger side vents are not cool at all. AC will cut out completely while driving around town(many stops and starts only to recycle when left off for a minute or 2) but will continue to cool only through middle vents while traveling on interstate. I just returned from a 6 hour round trip and had no interuptions,(although outside non cooling vent problem remained) when I got off the interstate and sat at a red light, AC went out completely. This has been consistent problem for over 2 months now, I have had freon checked 2 times, my mechanic verified the clutch on compressor was in proper order and well cleaned. Sorry for the rambling, any help would be greatly appreciated.

I assume that this will be the automatic climate control unit. It seems like the climate control unit is not receiving the correct signals to direct the air to the proper place, which would indicate that one or more of the damper motors is in trouble.

The only way to be certain is to have the fault codes read by someone with the appropriate equipment (from memory, Autozone does this, but I am in the UK so maybe someone from the US can confirm this).
