2000 xc70 starter question

So it seems like my starter is about to fail completely on the battle wagon. I wish it showed these symptoms since I just replaced the radiator.

I am not in the mood to splurge on the reman bosch ~$200 as I am not sure this car will make it much longer with the transmission codes I'm throwing.

but I love this car and want to get something in there to see if I can make it to inspection time.

By my simple research, the P/N 8251551 - I can get this off almost any volvo model from 98-present? If i find a parts car, is the removal generally the same, of removing the fan and taking out?

I found one from a '99, but that's older than my car. I am hoping to snag one off a newer wrecked XC90 or something...can anyone verify what year up to I can go?

From Vida, it shows, XC90 03-14 with B5254T2 engine (03-12) and B5254T9 (13-14), S/V40 98-04, S/V70 and XC 99-00, and C70 99-05, V70XC/XC70 01-07, V70 00-08 (P2), S60 (01-09), 5 cyl S80 (99-06).

I am always wary of Vida as I have found it can get it wrong, but perhaps this will give you some more choices to look at. Newer cars may not always be the best as some older ones may have had replacements.

Thanks Neil, definitely gives me a fighting chance since the pick n pull near me always seems to have S80s, but not many S/V70s

Autoparts store test alternator for free. Test it before putting one in the car.

thanks, I have replaced the alternator on this car 2x, I doubt that is it, but I will look into it. symptoms are: car either starts fine, or you turn the key and nothing. you hear the furl pump, lights go on, etc. just no turn over, not even a jump helps.

Check the tickler wire going to the solenoid. On my 2000 V70 XC it had become loose causing intermittent starter activation.
