Air Conditioning help in the Middle East

Post by Flip07 »

First off, my temperature control knobs do not seem to have any effect on the temperature in the cabin. I can set cold and I can set heat and it will always come out relatively cold. It went unnoticed for several users I'm sure because in the middle east, when would you need heat.

Here is the other issue, and maybe the aforementioned is another clue. When it is about 100 deg or less, I can turn on the A/C and it eventually cools down the car. However, around 100 deg or more, the system seems to give up and just starts blasting heat into the car. Not exactly what you want when it's 140 deg outside.

I had the system's refrigerant serviced and that had no effect on the symptoms. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated as the days of 100 deg temperatures have arrived again.

Thanks,
Flip

Does it work properly in manual mode - automatic button light off ?

First check the temperature sensor behind the small grid on top of the right temp knob, don't touch it just make sure it's intact and blow some air if it's dusty.

But I would rather suspect a broken hinge or an out of calibration flap inside the climate unit. Look on both sides at all hinges, then perhaps bring the car to Volvo and have the climate module recalibrated.

It doesn't seem to matter if it's in Manual Mode or Automatic. I did some more trouble shooting and found something else really odd. In the Auto mode for the vent selection, air blew out of the dashboard. But when I switched the temperature selection to the upper hotter temperatures, the vents closed and opened the area at the feet. Like I posted before, it was still cold. So strange.

The metal temp sensor, seems intact but dusty. I'll try getting an air compressor to blow it clean. I will also remove the panel to get a better view to inspect it. I have heard people say don't touch it to prevent it from breaking but I am so tempted to wipe it with a soft baby wipe.

Is the climate module the component behind the dash panel? I saw some on ebay for a decent price, if that would fix the A/C I would be down.

When you say, look at all hinges, what are you referring to? The hinges inside each vent?

Thanks for helping me out,
Flip
