I just acquired a 2006 v70 2.5T with 118Kmi and am preparing to do necessary work (timing belt, water pump, radiator) before I begin driving it regularly.
This is my first turbo (and first v70). I found some (oil?) seepage at the hose junctions between the turbo and the intercooler. What is going on, and is it something I need to worry about? First two pics are the turbo output behind the engine, third pic is the other end of the pipe near the intercooler. Thanks for your collective wisdom!
What is this turbo seepage?

A little bit of oil being pushed through the turbo is normal, but that's borderline excessive for 118k. I'd say add a PCV kit to the list of repairs you're doing, and pull the turbo intake tube to check for play in the turbine wheel. (side to side, front to back)
For whatever reason, I've replaced more turbos on the low pressure turbo engines than HPT's (only one of those)... perhaps because they're always in boost.

I broke the shaft in my turbo 04 V70 last yr, not the end of the world. Got a new turbo core off ebay for $175.ogatrulle wrote: ↑07 May 2017, 15:49 I just acquired a 2006 V70 2.5T with 118Kmi and am preparing to do necessary work (timing belt, water pump, radiator) before I begin driving it regularly.

You'll know if its getting a lot worse if the exh has blue smoke.
Otherwise I'd stick to your schedule of timing belt/water pump etc.
I'm considering my PCV system next.

Based on other posts I've read, I was considering replacing the PCV system. It sounds like it's fairly important.
How do I access the turbo input area? The flexible pipe from the air cleaner seems to go back behind the engine and I can't even see a hose clamp, let alone reach it.and pull the turbo intake tube to check for play in the turbine wheel. (side to side, front to back)

Yeah - it is not fun getting to these. The clamp is installed from below the car so You need to get underneath, a rack being best, to get to this clamp. When I did my 1999 T5, I put the clamp up so it could be reached from up top with a long extension, but Volvo manufacturing was not so kind.

I got the intake tube off (surprisingly easy once I got underneath) but I could barely get a finger into the turbo (some bracket casting at rear of transmission was in the way of my hand). I could touch the very tip of the shaft with one finger - it wouldn't move radially and it didn't move when I pushed axially. I couldn't get any purchase on it to pull axially toward the left of the car. I'm going to assume it's OK.cmblackburn wrote: ↑07 May 2017, 16:05 pull the turbo intake tube to check for play in the turbine wheel. (side to side, front to back)
While I was under the car I noticed some oil seeping at the output of the intercooler, but I guess that's to be expected given the other seepage upstream.

Sounds about right, thats as good as I was able to reach.
Clean it all up and button it up,position clamps so you don't have to jack the car up next time. I use a long screwdriver.
