C70 - What to look for?

Post by steve518 »

Hello everyone,
I am about to purchase a 2008 C70 and would appreciate any input on what to look for. My biggest concern is the mileage at 129,000.
It looks well maintained, no oil leaks, smooth transmission. Nice looking car. I do believe that the camshaft belt was changed some time ago. And hope I can trust that premium fuel has always been used. A little worried about the low ground clearance.
Thanks in advance for any input on possible pending repairs.

You hit the main things...also check to see if PCV was exchanged...your year may have had a company recall.
All these P1's sit low but you'll be fine...mine has been lowered another 30cm from stock and it's okay- just have to watch it in supermarket speed bumps and try to aim for the lower ends. Get a skid plate from IPD for piece of mind if it's a concern! All my cars have them!

The top on this car has been good. They can make some noise when up that sounds like something serious but silicone past grease applied to all the weatherstrips between top sections and the ones the glass rolls up against takes care of it usually.
all P1 models have vulnerability of low parking curbs hitting the low mount ac compressor. The IPD splash pan mentioned is a great help with that.

Hi, do you check the PCV the same way you would do so on the P80? With the glove?

I heard that one way to check the PCV is to warm the engine up to operating temperature and remove the oil dipstick. If you see smoke then it needs to be replaced. Quite a bit of parts need to be removed to access the PCV housing.

Hey steve518, thanks for the insight. I have a family member who is thinking about one of these cars but I want to make sure he didn't have to immediately spend over $1000 on a PCV job. I did the job on our 98 S70; it looks 100x more complicated on this engine...

Actually, the PCV system is the entire section that the oil filter fits into...it unbolts and you just replace it...all the air/oil duct work is contained within it so it's very easy to deal with. That said, the glove test- IDK...usually the sign of the PCV going south in this car is a whining sound as if it's sucking air at idle.

 woah! So you're telling me it's not a 5-hour long procedure?? I suppose that's why there are no YouTube videos of the procedure! I might go with him to check out these cars so I'll pay attention to how the engines sound. Thanks for the info.

Read the reviews too...you might can get this for cheaper elsewhere.
You would think the extra clamp and elbow would be provided by fcpeuro after reading the reviews, but maybe not so if you need this kit, it's best to call them to make sure they have included these.
