I had the usual VVT symptoms -noise and slow leak oil and was planning to replace it when I was "inspired" by sudden loss of oil pressure/volume. Close to a Sam's club and got a 12Qt case. Made it home (7 miles/8 quarts w/2 stops) and discovered the intake front cam seal was pushed out/loose. First time tackling this job but locked the cams and seem to get everything back together and it started perfectly before replacing engine mount and covers. Started to button things up. The exhaust BACK seal looked fine - no hints of leaking oil but was cleaning up some crusty goo on the intake cam - nothing flowing or dripping inside where the back plastic/metal plug is installed and noticed that there appears to be NO rear cam seal on that side - at least nothing that looks like the exhaust side.
Is that possible??? - no rear cam seal and having the car run 25K since the 105k timing belt change by the "professionals" at a BMW-Volvo independent shop??? Or is the rear intake seal hidden deep in there somewhere - it looks identical part to the exhaust side.
